Let’s Talk About It: Do You Agree That Banning Sniper Will Reduce The Rate Of Suicide In Nigeria?

Sniper have been around for a while now. Many argued that Sniper have been around since 2017, some said sniper have been around way before 2017 but it wasn’t popular and many other others think sniper have only been around early 2018.

2018 was filled with so many reports of suicide, many of these were carried out using a pesticide called Sniper.

Following recent case of a 400-level student of the Department of English and Literary Studies, University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), identified as Chukwuemeka Akachi who, on Monday, allegedly committed suicide, using the Sniper. Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Enugu state who had confirmed the incident to newsmen on Tuesday, had described it as “pathetic and unfortunate.” How did he die? An eyewitness account said Akachi went to an uncompleted building on Sullivan Road, Nsukka, where he drank two bottles of Sniper.

Many Nigerians are are now demanding for the ban of the deadly substance.

We are thinking, shouldn’t the focus be more on providing mental health care and counselling as well as help for people who are depressed and suicidal? If they ban Sniper, will they also ban everything including Lagos Lagoon – a number of people also jumped into the Lagoon last year?

Let’s talk about it, What is your take on this?
